Who is TODD MCALLISTER?

Todd McAllister is the owner of OnStage, based in Portland, Oregon. He got started in home staging by accident, and the accident has turned out pretty good for all involved. Now years later, Todd has an amazing staff, two locations and is very proud to say that OnStage offers their employees health and retirement benefits.

Todd credits much of his success to not giving up in the beginning, empowering his team to make decisions, taking risks and continuing to change and evolve in how you run the business and how you do things.

Before home staging, Todd worked for a comic book publisher, managing the production of over 300 books and the components of each book. After about 9 years, he transitioned into visual merchandising for Nordstrom. Todd’s position consisted of floor changes, where he would clear off and entire department and reset every fixture, and re-arrange the merchandise, dressing mannequins, re-working the merchandise and holiday sets where he would install Christmas the night before thanksgiving. Todd was also part of a team that would travel around to store openings and set up the entire store before the grand opening. Todd feels as though this job is what really got him thinking on how important visual presentation is, which later translated into home staging.

Like many other stagers, Todd has staged thousands of properties. Many times, the furniture was nicer than the house it was going into, but it was his job to make the home look it’s very best. He has met many interesting people over the years and seen a lot of crazy things, but says that it’s been the crazy that has kept him going. Todd finds the most rewarding jobs are the modest homes of first time sellers as they are very self conscious about their home and feel that it is not the biggest or most beautiful. Todd notes that when they see the end product, they are the most appreciative and never realized that their home could look this nice (and to get the call that it went over asking is just icing on the cake).
